dome parties

The Dome Party happens once every semester. Students in both physics and astronomy, and faculty get together in a non-academic setting to become better acquainted. It's a very nice tradition that shows the unity of our department well.

annual physics + astronomy picnic

Held in May. Junior and senior prizes are announced.

keck northeast astronomy consortium (KNAC)

The KNAC is a group of 8 schools in the northeast who do astronomy research (Colgate, Haverford, Middleburry, Swarthmore, Wellesley, Wesleyan, Williams, and Vassar). Each year, students get the opportunity to apply for summer jobs with an institution in the consortium that is not their home institution. This way students are traded off so that they can learn about different aspects of astronomy that their advisors in their institution do not necessarily specialize in. Each October, the schools get together and hold a conference much like URSI, only almost every student is required to give a talk. It is an excellent opportunity for young students to get a start in astronomy research, and leads to jobs at the national institutions.
